Wet Rot
There are numerous types of Wet Rot. Some of which mimic Dry Rot very closely. It is, therefore, essential that a qualified Surveyor inspects any suspicious form of rot.
Unlike Dry Rot, Wet Rot does not have the ability to spread, it does not produce well developed strands and does not penetrate brick walls in the same way.
Decay to exterior window frames, timber cladding etc., can almost certainly be put down to Wet Rot. Whilst Dry Rot needs a warm, moist and unventilated position in which to thrive, Wet Rot needs a much wetter wood for an attack to progress.
Solution!
Treatment of small areas can be successfully carried out by just replacing the rotten timber. Where there is a substantial attack it is necessary to remove the structurally weakened timber, treat the affected area and use pre-treated timber for any replacement work.
